Successive Jamaican governments have since 1962, encouraged a systematic and coordinated approach to the relationship between Jamaica and its overseas communities, with the establishment of embassies, high commissions and consulates among other things to, facilitate this process.
The increased efforts of Jamaica, since 2002, to broaden the discourse with the Jamaican Diaspora have clearly proven that without the establishment of workable organizational linkages, the strengthening and deepening of the ties necessary to achieving a greater and more coordinated, mutually beneficial working relationship will not materialize.
This book records the developing organizational framework between Jamaica and the Jamaican Diaspora which began at the historic diasporic conference held in Jamaica in 2004 and continued with the conferences held in 2006 and 2008.
The dialogue which took place after each presentation at the second conference is also captured in order to give the reader an appreciation of some of the primary concerns of members of the Jamaican Diaspora.
