Indespoke is a retail and creative enterprise hub in Birmingham and Solihull. We put independent makers on a real shop floor, sell their work for them, and put what we earn back into helping them grow.

What we actually do

We run two shops. Birmingham sits under the glass roof of the Great Western Arcade, two minutes from Snow Hill. Solihull is a bigger floor in Mell Square, with rooms you can run a session in. Between them they carry the work of more than a hundred independent businesses — skincare, candles, jewellery, cards, prints, clothing, food and gifts.

Every brand on our shelves is a real person running a real business, and most of them are doing it on their own. They keep ownership of their stock until it sells. Our team merchandises it, recommends it by name, sells it, and pays them monthly with a statement showing exactly what went.

Indespoke is a community interest company, which is to say a not-for-profit. We are not a landlord renting out shelves and there are no shareholders taking a cut. We are a social enterprise that happens to be good at retail, and what the shops earn funds the development work around them.

What we offer independent brands

A shelf, staffed five days a week. Shelf Placement from £50 a month: your own space in one of our shops, merchandised and sold by our team, with your products listed on indespoke.com. You never have to stand behind it.

A day on the floor. Pop-up days from £30, booked whenever suits you, to launch something, run a demo, or simply trade and meet customers face to face.

The part that isn't a shelf. Membership at £15 a month: a room full of other founders, coaches and mentors you can put a question to, and a business surgery every Friday. Complimentary for as long as you hold a placement.

    Our brands share a floor, a till and a customer base, and they do better for it. Quarterly meet-ups, a community they can put a question into any day of the week, and a hundred other founders who have already solved whatever you are currently stuck on.

  • Someone made this

    Everything on our shelves was made by a person we know by name. Come in on the right day and you will meet them, because our brands trade in the shop as well as on it. Nothing here arrived by the pallet from a warehouse.

  • The same route in for everyone

    Too many good businesses never get a shot at retail because of who they know rather than what they make. So our prices are published, our application is open, and every brand is scored against the same written checklist. No introductions required.
